In collaboration with Trans in Eigen Hand, the Rainbow Academy, a general practitioner/sexologist (SeksHAG), and an endocrinologist, the Transgender Care Quartermaster is developing a webinar for general practitioners. This webinar will provide more information about care for transgender individuals and the role GPs can play. The webinar will start on October 18th and will be repeated twice. Interested general practitioners can register.
The general practitioner is an important point of contact for transgender individuals, so it is crucial that they are well-informed. Waiting lists at university gender teams have increased to two years or more, meaning transgender individuals often wait years before seeing a specialist. As a result, this group turns to their GP more often and for longer periods for help. With this continuing education, we provide GPs with the tools they need to meet the needs of this group.
This continuing education will provide more information about gender dysphoria, terminology, the treatment of gender dysphoria, and its implementation within the Dutch healthcare system.
“Trans In Eigen Hand aims to bridge the gap between patient and doctor through better information provision and communication. We hope this collaboration can be the starting shot for improvements in transgender care from the GP's perspective and greater involvement of the transgender community in how this care can best be provided.” - Denna Sikkema, Trans In Eigen Hand
The webinars will take place at the following times:
- Tuesday, October 18, 7:30 PM
- Thursday, November 24, 7:30 PM
- Wednesday, February 1, 7:30 PM
Accreditation for this continuing education has been requested. Completing the continuing education is expected to yield two accreditation points.
