HORMONES AT THE GGD

Amsterdam and Utrecht are already doing it: Low-barrier hormone care through the GGD (Municipal Health Services). For everyone who falls through the cracks — migrants, sex workers, asylum seekers, and trans people of color.

what we stand for

Three themes, one goal:
care without a gatekeeper

informed consent

Self-determination in healthcare

A diagnosis should not be an entry ticket. We advocate for informed consent: you decide, the healthcare provider informs and guides. Also for people without residency status, without a Dutch passport, or without a permanent GP.

What good care can mean.

“My endocrinologist transferred my hormone care to my GP. Now I can get help much faster and closer to home if I have questions. Blood tests can also be done right there. It's so great!”

“Prescribing hormones isn't as complicated as I thought. In fact, I already knew all the medications! You are allowed to do this and it makes a huge difference for your patients.”

Taboo broken

Hormone care at the GP

Hormone care through a GP is very normal for many people, for example during menopause. For trans people, that wasn't the case yet. We explained how important it is to arrange this care in primary care. Now many GPs also prescribe hormones to trans people. We will keep going until it's possible at every GP!

What we often heard: "I want to prescribe hormones to trans people, but I don't know how." Not anymore! Together with NHG and Transvisie, we wrote guidelines to help GPs get started!
