Treasurer Vacancy
Are you the meticulous person we're looking for? Can you navigate accounting, or are you eager to learn? Become a board member at Trans In Eigen Hand!
What you will do
As a board member, you are responsible for co-shaping the vision and strategy of TIEH. Together with the other board members, you work on professionalizing the organization and maintaining partnerships.
As treasurer, you are not only a board member, but you also keep an eye on the foundation's finances. Your role also includes:
- You keep the books via our simple online system
- You ensure that invoices are sent and that bills are paid
- At the end of the fiscal year, you prepare the balance sheet and the statement of income and expenditure, and present them to the board within six months
- You advise the board on financial choices and monitor the budget
- You manage the bank account and handle expense claims
- You keep an eye on ensuring we don't hoard more money than we need for our work, which is one of the conditions for our ANBI status
When it's busy
The workload is not evenly distributed throughout the year. In February and March, you prepare the annual accounts. Before July 1st, the annual report and financial accountability must be on the website. In October and November, you draw up the budget for the coming year. Outside of those times, it's mostly maintenance. The volume of payments is not very large, mostly involving software subscriptions.
You are not alone
No one can represent the foundation on their own: two board members are always required to act together. Payments above an agreed amount follow the four-eyes principle, where another board member approves them via the banking app, and expenses over €500 require a board decision. The board is collectively responsible for the finances: the role divides the work, not the responsibility.
Profile
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic treasurer with an affinity for our target group. Someone who can ensure that the foundation handles its money responsibly. Board experience is not necessary: everything you need to know to get started is in our board manual and our bookkeeping manual.
Furthermore, we are looking for:
- A passion for and commitment to the transgender community.
- Accuracy and reliability: you finish what you start.
- Experience in bookkeeping is a plus.
- Willingness to invest an average of 8 hours per month.
About Trans In Eigen Hand
Trans In Eigen Hand is a small, goal-oriented volunteer organization dedicated to the autonomy of transgender and gender-diverse people in Dutch gender care. We work in front of and behind the scenes to make gender care based on informed consent possible, train healthcare workers, and create tools that help transgender people and healthcare workers navigate the complex care system.
The board meets once every two months, online.
What you get in return
A better world, the pleasure of working with kind and driven people, and of course, great board experience.
What you don't get is money. TIEH board members are not paid; we reimburse expenses incurred for the foundation upon presentation of a receipt.
There is no fixed term of office. You stay as long as it fits, and in November and December, the whole board looks at how things are going and who will continue. You can stop at any time; we will arrange a proper handover together.
