At Trans In Eigen Hand, we regularly receive requests from trans people who could use some support. Hannah's story, she's almost 5 years old, touched us so much that we couldn't just let it go. With her family's permission, we are sharing it here, in the hope that you'll want to contribute.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah was assigned male at birth, but it soon became clear that wasn't right. She preferred wearing girls' clothes. Late last year, the time came: Hannah left her boy's name and boy's clothes behind and chose her own new name. Her mother, grandpa, grandma, and aunt immediately embraced her for who she is. Her father, unfortunately, did not.<\/p>\n

He refuses to see Hannah for who she is, continues to use her old name and the wrong pronouns, and doesn't believe in who his child is. Late last year, the situation at home became so unsafe that it was clear Hannah couldn't stay there. That same night, Hannah was moved to her grandmother's with a few belongings.<\/p>\n

Since then, Hannah and her mother have been forced to live with grandma in a much too small 55+ home where they aren't actually allowed to stay. For months, they tried to maintain contact between father and daughter, but his attitude didn't change. Time for a new start.<\/p>\n

Mother and daughter are moving to Emmen, close to family, close to the school Hannah chose herself. A beautiful house, but completely empty. Hannah's mother is on disability benefits, and her ex is out of anger withholding benefits and threatening to break or throw away belongings. So, they are starting with almost nothing.<\/p>\n

Her family is helping out as much as possible, and thanks to previous help, flooring for the whole house and curtains for two rooms have already been arranged. But more is needed: paint, wallpaper, and furniture. It doesn't all have to be expensive, but it does cost money that simply isn't there. In the long run, the family also hopes to arrange something for the garden, so Hannah can play outside again like she used to.<\/p>\n

Hannah has lived with her grandmother for the past eight months and is now staying with family while the new house is being furnished. It's starting to take a toll on her. She is a sweet, smart girl who urgently needs her own place: a room that is truly hers, decorated her way. Her mother has already promised to paint a big rainbow on her wall, and she can't stop talking about it.<\/p>\n
